World Kindness Day 2021

Saturday, 13th November

What’s On?

This year we will be holding three live World Kindness Day Virtual Assemblies for primary schools on Friday 12th November (the day before World Kindness Day).  We will also be releasing a brand new World Kindness Day Resource Pack for schools. Last year we worked with more than 1200 children on World Kindness Day, and we’re planning for 2021 to be even bigger!

You can also follow us on Social Media to be the first to hear about new resources and events

Ideas for Schools Celebrating World Kindness Day

Last year, schools all over the country worked with us on World Kindness Day. We encouraged children to spread kindness to people who needed it most, while also learning about the impact being kind will have on their own physical and mental health. Here are just a few ideas that might provide some inspiration for your school…

Sponsored Activities: School children can choose to do a variety of sponsored activities around the them of ’52’  to raise funds for the 52 Lives Kindness Charity. Last year, children baked 52 cupcakes, did 52 burpees, ran 52 laps of their school field, made 52 pairs of socks to sell…to name just a few.

Hold a Mufti-Day: This is another simple way to raise funds and spread kindness (some schools ask their student to wear purple of green and donate £1 for 52 Lives on World Kindness Day).

Change a Life With Kindness: In our Kindness Workshops, we tell the children about a real person in need of kindness and challenge them to do something to help that person, such as making cards, writing letters, recording songs, or making small gifts. It helps children to realise that little things can make a big difference, and that their actions have the power to change lives. You can find people to help through the 52 Lives charity, or perhaps you could write letters to residents of a local care home, or to thank doctors and nurses at your local hospital.

Take on a Kindness Challenge: Every week in our Kids’ Kindness Club, we set the children a Kindness Challenge. Sign up to our free Kids’ Club and take on a World Kindness Day Challenge in November!

Learn about the Science of Kindness: Kindness doesn’t just help other people, it also improves our own physical and mental health. Teaching children about the effects of kindness will empower them to take charge of their own well-being. We have a range of free video lesson plans available to download here.

How did World Kindness Day begin?

World Kindness Day was first launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, an organisation formed at a 1997 Tokyo conference of kindness organisations around the world. There are currently more than 28 nations involved in The World Kindness Movement. The mission of the World Kindness Movement and World Kindness Day is to create a kinder world by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness.
