Anti-Bullying Week 2021
15th -19th November
What is Anti-Bullying Week?
Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event which aims to raise awareness of bullying and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. In England, Anti-Bullying Week is organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, which is a network of more than 100 member organisations (including us!) all united against bullying.
What’s Happening This Year?
This year the theme is ‘One Kind Word’, emphasising the positive impact a small gesture or comment can have on someone else’s day.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance asked more than 400 young people, parents and teachers what they wanted from this year’s Anti-Bullying Week. They answer was clear – they wanted it to be about hope and the positive and kind things we can do to combat bullying and spread more kindness. Here at the School of Kindness, we couldn’t think of a better theme to end what has been a very challenging year for so many young people.
Odd Socks Day
Odd Socks Day is held on 15th November to kick off Anti-Bullying Week. This day helps us to recognise that everyone is unique and different, and that we all need kindness and respect. The Anti-Bullying Alliance patron, CBBC and CBeebies star Andy Day, will also be releasing a song to celebrate ‘Odd Socks Day’ with his band Andy and the Odd Socks on the day. You can find out more here.
How Can Your School Get Involved?
To get your school involved in Anti-Bullying Week, you can download a range of free resources from the ABA website, including lesson plans and themed assemblies for different key stages. At The School of Kindness we also have a range of free teaching resources related to Anti-Bullying Week that you can download here.
If you’d like to spread even more kindness at your school, you can request a Kindness Workshop from us here at The School of Kindness, which is totally free and a great way to inspire children to respect others and spread kindness.
Just before Anti-Bullying Week, on Saturday 13th November, is World Kindness Day! This year, we will be holding three live virtual assemblies for primary schools on Friday 12th November (the day before World Kindness Day). We will also be releasing a brand new World Kindness Day Resource Pack for schools! You can find out more about it here.
