World Book Day
2nd March 2023
World Book Day 2023 will be on 2nd March. It’s a day when children of all ages come together to share the joy of reading for pleasure. It aims to change lives through a love of books and shared reading.
The World Book Day charity is on a mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Why Reading?
Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. The World Book Day charity wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.
Reading is also a great way to be kind to ourselves. It helps us to relax, be more creative and fuels our imaginations!
Did you know? World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
World Book Day Challenge
At the School of Kindness, we love books about kindness! So we were very excited to chat to three of our favourite authors about their kind books.
Watch the video below and then take part in our World Book Day Challenge!
Simply download and complete the activity sheet to tell us what your favourite book is, why you like it and then draw your favourite character. The prize is a copy of EACH of the three special books from our special guest authors in Greig’s video! Just email or post us your completed challenge. kidskindnessclub@52-lives.org .
Kindness Books
Books are a great way to teach children about the importance of kindness and to encourage empathy through the power of story-telling. We have selected some of our favourites, suitable for a range of ages.

Meet The Authors…
To celebrate World Book Day, we asked three of our favourite authors to share the inspiration behind their books with us.
